Dinga?s shave rings up $2000

HAIR gone, money raised. Darryl Dinga Bell's selfless decision to lose his locks raised about $2000 for charity last night.

The 47-year-old construction contractor had the shave at the Duaringa Hotel, the great sacrifice being that the hair had survived three years without contact with scissors.

The money was going toward a new heart monitor for the childrens ward at Rockhampton Hospital.

"My wife has been calling me baldy even before I'd had the cut,'' Darryl said.

Duaringa Hotel manager Colin Hofmeier said there was strong support for the cause.

Pledges were being accepted right up to and during the big cut, he said.

Anybody wishing to donate could drop it at the pub or call 4935 7202.
