District clubs search for CQ?s golfing grail

THE Wowan Golf Club is seeking back-to-back titles when the Robinson Cup hits the Gladstone Golf Club on September 11.

This prized trophy was up for grabs in 1935 when it was played in Gladstone with the host club winning.

Featuring clubs from Rockhampton and Gladstone districts and the Central Highlands, the host club traditionally has strong title claims.

Among the clubs still searching for their first cup are Capella, Calliope, Dysart and Moranbah.

The Rockhampton Golf Club has won the cup the most times with 11 victories while Gladstone has nine cup titles ? their last win was in 1980.

The Robinson Cup is a teams single stroke nett event hosting five players per team with the best three nett scores to count.

There is a limit of two teams per club.
