Doug searches for No.1

UNEARTHING the next Greg Norman is something Yeppoon's Doug Gardner would love to do.

Gardner has just been ap-pointed as a Greg Norman Foundation coach and his role involves promoting the game at schools between Mackay and Gympie.

"It's going to involve a lot of travelling but I'm looking forward to the challenge,'' said Gardner, a former State and national golfing representative.

"We're recognised in Queensland for producing one of the best golfers in the world and we'd like to keep that trend going.''

Gardner said the Foundation, formed in 1986, was renowned for introducing kids to golf.

"I'll be trying to get kids to the golf clubs and the golf club pros will take it from there.

"Golf's a great game to get into because you can play yourself, with another person or three or four people.

"The Foundation has helped kids get off the streets as well, which is a good thing for society.''

Schools interested in finding out more about Gardner's services and the Greg Norman Foundation can phone 0400 070 268.
