Early bird joins the big stars
ROCKHAMPTON couple Nathan and Emma Cheng have mistakenly won a monster opportunity of a lifetime.
The Chengs returned to Rockhampton late last week after winning a trip to the world premiere of the movie King Kong in Wellington, New Zealand.
It was an all-star performance, walking the 70m long red carpet, mingling with other guests and cast members at the party afterwards and listening to a speech from movie director Peter Jackson.
"There were thousands of people there and we were trying to chicken out of walking down the red carpet,'' Mr Cheng said.
"The old heart was going.
"We got the guts to go and people were asking for our autographs and I just said 'you don't want our autographs'.''
This amazing experience all started from a mistake.
Nathan bought his King Kong tickets to go and watch the movie in Rockhampton, a month early in November.
"I told my friends and they said it didn't start for another month,'' Nathan said.
About two weeks later he received a call saying he was a winner in the King Kong competition for pre-ordering his tickets on the internet.
"I didn't even know there was a competition ? I thought I might have won a King Kong pack or a T-shirt.
"She rattled off some New Zealand stuff and I'm thinking 'you're kidding' (thinking this was a set-up).''
Nathan asked for an email which confirmed the win. As for his movie review.
"It was good, but long,'' Nathan said, wishing he hadn't indulged in a few too many free champagnes during the movie.
