Esme nose it?s a good cause

SHE may never play for the Comets but Esme, the southern hairy nosed wombat, might kick a goal for Central Queensland in the Adelaide job market.

Showing her own patriotism for her new Central Queensland home, the Rockhampton Zoo, Esme who comes from SA, was not too willing to don her old state's colours.

As zoo keepers battled to put SA's football jerseys on her, she finally caved when told what a good cause it was all for.

Esme the southern hairy nosed wombat will become Rockhampton's and Central Queensland's mascot to encourage South Australian workers here.

Mayor Margaret Strelow will fly to Adelaide next Wednesday with 12 other CQ representatives to inform workers, waiting to be laid of by General Motors, the opportunities that await for them here. "The photo's will be part of our campaign ? wombats wearing Adelaide Port Power shirts will be the mascot,'' she said.

The aggressive campaign to get workers to move to the area came after Cr Strelow went to the mines and found a dire need for jobs to be filled.
