Evans has his eye on Cup

FORMER Capricorn Coast player Josh Evans has not "won too many things'' in his young football career so he has a Football Queensland State Cup title in his sights in Cairns tonight.

Evans will line-up for Pine Rivers in their grand final showdown against the Far North Queensland Taipans, the team which ended the Frenchville Sports Club Capricorn Cougars' title aspirations at Rockhampton's Ryan Park last Saturday night.

The centre back is confident Pine Rivers, the team he joined as an invitational player at the start of the Cup campaign, has the team to go all the way.

"We have a lot of skilful players and if we can control them up front by not letting them score, we have the players that can score goals,'' Evans said.

Pine Rivers also have the impressive record of an undefeated run during the State Cup and the only team to inflict a defeat against FNQ ? a 1-0 victory in their final round clash in Cairns a fortnight ago.

The Brisbane-based Pine Rivers team still did it tough in that game, particularly trying to cope with the high humidity levels that came with the 7pm kick-off.
