Extra limb gives toad leg-up to fame

THEY say toads are evolving and getting faster ? that's no wonder if they are growing an extra leg.

Gladstone's Gail Tobin found a toad in her dog's water bowl just as she was about to top it up and noticed something different about it.

"I was thinking of disposing of it, then I saw the extra leg sticking out,'' she said.

"As my two-year-old grandson, Scott, was coming over, I decided to keep it to show it to him.

"He was very impressed.''

Gail said she had no love for toads and could not be talked into holding it.

She admitted that over the years many a toad had found its way to heaven with her willing assistance.

"But Scott is too young to distinguish between a frog and a toad,'' she said.

"So for some time he will be happy to know that we found a nice home for it.
