Families keen for medals

GRACEMERE'S medal hunt at this weekend's Queensland Little Athletics Association Winter Championships in Townsville could become a family affair.

Two sets of sisters are medal contenders in the club's favourite event ? shot put.

Erin McKinnon hopes to improve on last year's bronze medal in the under-11 girls' shot put while younger sister, Catherine, will compete in the under-9 event.

Alex and Renee Beitzel will contest the under-14 and under9 girls' shot put events respectively.

The current Gracemere record-holder, Alex can expect some strong competition from team-mate Breanna Lewis.

Also leading the Gracemere charge is Liam Rodgers, who will return to defend last year's gold medal in the 1500m walk event while Emily Keehn is a strong medal chance in the high jump and triple jump events.

A strong contingent from the North Rockhampton club will also join the track and field action over the weekend.
