Family Christmas a labour of love
ROCKHAMPTON'S Peter and Cathy Beasley are going to great lengths to share Christmas with all their children.
They will have early Christmas celebrations tomorrow with their son Alex, and their new grandson Wil, who is three weeks old today, and then they hit the road on Saturday.
The Beasleys will drive to the Gold Coast on Christmas Eve to stay with their eldest daughter, Tania.
Cathy said the plan was to have breakfast and lunch there on Christmas Day and then fly to Newcastle to have Christmas Day dinner with their other daughters Peta and Janita.
It's a big effort, but for Cathy it's worth it.
"It's all about the grandkids,'' she said.
After proudly spending preChristmas celebrations with the latest addition to the family in Rockhampton at the Gold Coast she will be entertained by Tania's children Tayla, 9, and Cody, 13, before Peta's boys Jet, 4, and Levi, 1, become the centre of attention.
This epic journey has not been a year in the planning.
"I've got two ports, with no clothes just presents, I hope to get some clothes when I get there,'' Cathy said, having bought several of the presents, some larger than others, before travel plans were made.
The last time the Beasley family all spent Christmas together was in 2001 and, while they will not be in the one place at one time this year, at least Cathy and Peter have the family covered.
"We've always had good Christmases together and generally it's a good time to spend time with them (family),'' Cathy said.
