Ferguson faces Choptang first

ROCKHAMPTON'S Victoria Park is a long way from Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena for rising Australian tennis star Sophie Ferguson.

Ferguson, 19, returns to Victoria Park when the US$25,000 Kia International women's challenger tournament continues today.

A Fed Cup debutant this year and future Australian Open champion, the top seed takes on Thailand's Wilawan Choptang in the opening round of the singles main draw.

This is the second tournament on the challengers tour which consists of six tournaments across Queensland, ACT and South Australia.

The overall winner will receive a wildcard into the 2006 Australian Open.

Today's play starts at 9am.
