Fifteen pay up to contest open Classic

? WITH the running rail back in its true position, the going at Callaghan Park today seems likely to be rated good for the strong eight-race card.

Rockhampton Jockey Club officials have every right to look forward to another bumper TAB meeting on Sunday with superb fields headed by the running of the $57,000 Capricorn Sales 2YO Classic (1200m).

Some 15 youngsters purchased from the Rockhampton Capricorn Yearling Sales last year have been declared runners in what looks one of the most open runnings of the feature race in years.

Under the set weight conditions for the event whereby colts and geldings carry 56kg and fillies 54kg, the youngster who comes in the best on weights is the Dave Badham-trained Deceiving, a dual 1000 metres Callaghan Park winner and placegetter under 59kg.

However, the luxury of Deceiving's weight is somewhat clouded by his laststart failure when 3.6 lengths back fifth behind Rubies And Gold at Callaghan Park on March 9.

The Allan Jones-trained Private Ascot will have plenty of admirers through his 2kg weight drop after a third placing to Rubies And Gold in the same race.

Another factor much in favour of Private Ascot is that the Private Agenda youngster is the only winner over the Classic's distance of 1200 metres in the field.
