Fittler joins starters for Ray?s 60th bash

THE arrival of a limousine at a party in Rockhampton's Albert Street on Saturday night had many nearby residents wondering who the special guest was.

The occasion was a surprise 60th birthday party for Cambridge Hotel publican Ray Fenlon, attended by about 80 people.

Mr Fenlon, a mad-keen Sydney Roosters fan, had been mingling with guests when he found himself standing next to club legend Brad Fittler.

The former Roosters and Australian captain's appearance had been arranged by Mr Fenlon's son Tony.

As it turned out, the birthday celebration had coincided with Fittler's family vacation on the Capricorn Coast.

Mr Fenlon's wife Dawn said her husband was cock-a-hoop.

"I can't tell you what Ray said, you wouldn't be able to print it.

"Ray's always been a Freddy Fittler fan. He's always said Fittler was the best player to play rugby league,'' she said.

Tony Fenlon publicly thanked Fittler for taking time out from his holiday to attend the party.

"He stayed for about three hours and had a couple of drinks.

"You wouldn't meet a nicer bloke. What a great ambassador for rugby league. We really appreciate what he did.
