Frenchville and Uni book finals places

FORGET Lote Tuqiri, Frenchville Pioneers gamebreaker Mitch McDouall sure knows his way to the tryline.

McDouall was named player of the carnival at the Frenchville Rugby 10s at Ryan Park on Saturday night.

Enjoying the weekend off from the Queensland Country Rugby Union Championships, the Rockhampton CSR Readymix Brahmans flyer guided the hosts into the trophy final, only to fall 28-12 to University.

Brahmans coach Tom Moore, a keen spectator on Saturday, said McDouall was one of the players to watch when the Rockhampton and District Rugby Union 2006 season kicked off this weekend.

"Mitch has got a ton of talent and he's only really starting to realise his potential.

"He's certainly a winger of the future in Rockhampton and will be one of the leading tryscorers in the upcoming club competition,'' Moore said.

Frenchville and University both booked their place in the trophy decider with semi-final wins over Brothers while Colts won the plate final 21-7 against Dawson Valley Drovers.

It was not all good news for the Brahmans ahead of this weekend's final round match against the Sunshine Coast, with McDouall's older brother, Cam (ankle), and forward Andrew Hanrahan (knee), both injured.

However, Moore hopes to welcome back Che Anderson, Luke Buckley and Mitch Brown from injury.
