Friend left room after argument
THE friend of a 23-year-old alleged rape victim wanted the accused attackers to leave their hotel room in the hours before the attack.
The woman yesterday told the Rockhampton District Court she left the room after an argument about the two men with her friend.
Harrison Chuck Norris Lynch is on trial after pleading not guilty to two counts of rape and one count of unlawful and indecent assault in company on September 10, 2004.
The court heard the alleged rape victim and her friend met the men earlier in the night at a popular Rockhampton venue.
They later went separately to the girl's Rockhampton hotel room.
They were there with a group of other girls who left after someone from the hotel complained about the level of noise.
The friends later argued about whether or not the boys should stay.
Facing questions from Lynch's defence barrister Ross Lo Monaco, the friend said she went to the riverbank for about an "hour and a half'' after the argument.
She then briefly returned to the hotel room to get more drinks before leaving again.
She said she did not see or hear anything to indicate her friend was in trouble during this brief visit.
Only after she saw the two men leave did she return to the room where her friend told her about the alleged rape.
She said she was not frightened of either men on the night.
The jury is expected to retire today.
