Garrett stakes her title claim

NEW South Wales golfer Nikki Garrett has swung into contention at the Australian Amateur Women's Golf Championships at Yeppoon's Rydges Capricorn Resort.

Garrett is the player to beat in today's matchplay semi-finals after cruising through the quarter-final stage yesterday.

Garrett, who only last week led the Australian charge at the Asia-Pacific Teams Championships, beat Victoria's Kristie Newton six and four to book a place in the final four.

Garrett will take on Sarah Oh in the semifinals after Oh defeated fellow NSW golfer Helen Oh six and four yesterday.

Sunny Park, also leading the NSW invasion, and Victoria's Clare Choi, meet in the other semi-final.

Park edged past Samatha Holt two and one, while Choi beat Queenslander Keiko Arahata.

The winners of today's semi-finals will meet in tomorrow's 36hole matchplay final.
