Getting facts to lay the koala bare

THEY'RE cute, they're cuddly and they need the community's help.

The Rockhampton Zoo and the Koala Research Centre are calling on volunteers to aid in Koala research and care.

The more volunteers the better, said zoo co-ordinator Simon Walton.

"We still need a lot of help,'' he said.

The Koala Research Centre requires about 30 volunteers for field research. These helpers will be travelling in the bush recording the animal's habits.

The zoo also needs volunteers for everything from cleaning up pens to helping handle animals.

People who work at the zoo through Correctional Service programs often return, he said.

"A lot of them stay on just because it is rewarding to be around animals.''

Anyone interested in volunteering can call 4922 1654.
