Gladstone opts out of women?s soccer titles

? GLADSTONE has not come to the party in a new Central Queensland soccer concept for the Queensland open women's State titles starting on the Gold Coast today.

No Gladstone players, from the city's five women's clubs, made themselves available, leaving Cen- tral Queensland coach Dennis Jef- fries with just 12 players from Rock- hampton.

"If we can stay injury free the 12 players should put up a gallant ef- fort,'' Jeffries said.

However, Jeffries remains disap- pointed that he does not have more players at his disposal considering the team was selected between Rock- hampton and Gladstone players.

Bluebirds United's Carly Small and CQU Berserker's Iola Solomon will need big performances over the four round games while the team also includes three under-16 players, Nerimbera Brothers' Vicki Ed- wards, Renee McCall and Haley McQuire.

McCall also played for the open team last year.

The CQ team's opening games to- day are against North Queensland and North West Queensland.
