Goals galore in Rebels win

GOALS, goals and more goals have guided the Rockhampton Rebels under-13 soccer team to a clean sweep at the John Stedman under-13 Carnival in Toowoomba last week.

The Rockhampton side finished undefeated to claim this year's title from hosts Toowoomba Storm, and Cairns Marlins.

Rockhampton scored 35 goals and conceded just six in their seven wins, with a 7-1 demolition of the Storm their best performance of the carnival.

The Rebels raced to a 4-0 halftime lead and slammed home another three goals in the second half.

The team's closest match was also against the Storm on the final day, coming from 1-0 down to produce a 4-1 victory.

Rockhampton's other wins came against Toowoomba She Devils (6-1 and 4-1) and South Burnett (2-0 and 3-0).

Leading the Rockhampton charge were Joshua Verheyden, Jonathon Sauer, Jarod Lancaster and Justin McMullen, who were among the Rebels' best.

This team finished runner-up at last year's Rod Legge Under12 Carnival in Mackay.
