Golf title was family affair

AN OLIVE family member was always going to be in the running for a prize at this month's Duaringa Open Men's Golf Championship.

Lance Olive won this year's C grade gross title after being joined in the field by his brothers Kerry and Darren, his dad Allan and his cousin Jeff.

It was also a memorable event for Dingo's Rocky Saunders who after 27 years of trying finally won the B grade title. "I've always been too sick, too hungover or too busy running something,'' Saunders said.

Another first-time achiever was Duaringa Shire Council chief executive officer Don Carroll, playing C grade, who sank a hole in one on the par three number two hole.

Yeppoon's Sandy Bredhauer came close earlier in the day, landing just 40cm from the hole and said "the only way someone could beat that is to get a hole in one''.

Wowan's Mark Collins topped the A grade field.

Meanwhile, Dave Coyler has clinched this year's Miriam Vale men's closed championships.
