Golfers set to meet Maker

FORMER Gracemere golfer Justin Maker will teeoff in the Queensland Amateur Championships starting at Redcliffe today. Maker will take on Tweed Heads teenager Jake Younan-Wise in the opening round of the matchplay.

Defending champion and former Capricorn Country Club junior golfer Jason Day will miss the event with a back injury.

The 17-year-old sensation, who is expected to be out for at least three weeks, will also miss next week's Keperra Bowl.

Day said the back problem was a result of playing 17 tournaments in the past 24 weeks.

The knock-out tournament will culminate in a 36-hole final on Friday.
