Good vibrations if you?re shopping for pleasure
MAYBE it's the heat, the humidity, or even just the healthy living, but Rockhampton appears to be going sex-mad.
Yet another sex shop will open in Rockhampton at the weekend.
That will make it four adult shops in the city that this time last year had just one.
But the question is: Are Rockhampton people sex- mad, or is the city oversexed?
When that question was put to some shop owners the an- swers were mixed.
Owner of the new Adult Superstore Trish Lawrence said the number of sex shops was not excessive. She described the city's appetite for sexual material as average.
Monique Gunter, manager of Love Heart Adult Shops, was not so sure. She thought the city might now be over- sexed. One thing they did agree on was the industry was not about sleaze and dark alleys, but about fun.
Ms Lawrence, who is getting ready for tomorrow's opening of the superstore, said she expected a fruitful, fertile business.
"Our store has a welcoming environment,'' Ms Lawrence said.
And fun seems to be a vast understatement at this store, because Ms Lawrence's products are designed to appease all the guilty pleasures.
Among the top sellers are massage oils, novelties and what she describes as "girl and boy vibes.''
But Ms Lawrence, who previously owned an adult store in Redcliffe, said adult stores were enjoyed by all people. Ms Gunter from Love Heart said she was often asked if she met a lot of weirdos in her line of work.
"But the people that come in are all very normal.'' There must be a lot of "normal'' people in Rockhampton because Love Heart Adult Shop has also opened a sec- ond store on the southside.
The Adult Superstore, at 101 Bolsover Street, opens at 10am tomorrow.
