Gracemere strikes gold for zone win

THE Gracemere ladies fours team have continued their golden run to this year's State Champion of Champions finals in Brisbane.

Gracemere will lead the Central Queensland charge after winning the zone title over Alumina Bowls Club in Gladstone.

The team of skip Marion Batchelor, Jennifer Armistead, Maureen Bull and Julie Lawrence next meet the State's best in Brisbane next month.

The long-standing combination is the first Gracemere team to advance to the State finals.

"This is gold for us,'' Batchelor said.

"We've been together for about five or six years and this is definitely our highest achivement.''

Gracemere produced a comefrom-behind 23-22 victory against the Karen Hunt-skipped Alumina outfit at last month's zone final.

Entering the final end trailing by one shot, Gracemere picked up two shots with Batchelor's last bowl for victory.

n Meanwhile, the Central Queensland District Ladies Bowling Association (CQDLBA) triples matches will be played at the Gracemere Bowls Club next Wednesday.
