Graff masters swim event

ROCKHAMPTON masters swimmer Bryan Graff had no intention of trying to master butterfly, but he still came away with five wins from five events in Rockhampton on the weekend.

Competing in the Rocky Crocs 6th Twilight carnival at the South Rockhampton World War II Memorial Pool, Graff, 75, won his 75-79 years division 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle and 50m and 100m breaststroke events.

Graff has been competing for the Crocs since October 1993. Age is no barrier in this sport with the oldest competitors at this year's carnival being 81-year-old Ken Onions, of Gladstone, and Marg Cunningham, of Whitsunday.

The host club hit the pool with 19 swimmers and topped the points table.

Crocs swimmer Rachel O'Brien was the 20-24 years age champion, Jan Dwyer was second in the 70-74 years division and Leslie Smith placed third overall in the 6064 years division.

Joining the Crocs age champions in the men's division were Graff (75-79), Don Martin (65-69), Wayne Wooler (60-64) and Peter Cox (45-49).

Placing second in their age groups were Dean Gibson (5559) and Bob Barnes (60-64) while third placed Croc swimmers were Brian Bollington (50-54) and Michael Taylor (60-64).
