Grammarians win national gold

ALAN Bromiley has been involved with the all-conquering Rockhampton Grammarians Rowing Club for, well, as long as Wayne Bennett has been in charge at the Broncos.

At Lake Barrington in Tasmania yesterday, nothing could hide the excitement from the Grammarians head coach after his young 10-member squad produced the club's "best-ever'' result at the national titles.

The Grammarians open boys quad crew ? (stroke) Sasha Belonogoff, Jamie Keehn, Ben Morley, Stuart Bentley and (cox) James Reid ? powered to a gold medal finish in the second-fastest time in the event's history.

It was the Grammarians' second national title of the regatta after Belonogoff took out the under-17 boys single scull title on Friday.

In total, the Grammarians claimed two gold, one silver and one bronze medals after making five national finals.

Bromiley said it was a pleasing performance.

"It's been an outstanding regatta,'' Bromiley said.
