Gun, drugs seized in Mount Morgan police raid

A LUGER pistol, weapons and more than 60 marijuana plants were seized in a raid at Mount Morgan yesterday.

The raid, dubbed Operation Orion, led to the arrest of nine people after 10 homes in the Mount Morgan area were searched.

A total of 19 charges were laid yesterday morning, including a 35-year-old woman charged with producing and possession.

A 44-year-old man has been charged with possession of a firearm and a 40-year-old man was charged with possession of restricted weapons.

Endangered wildlife were also found and a 35-year-old man was charged with possession of endangered animals.

The nine charged will appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on March 23.

Constable Andrew McNamara thanked the Mount Morgan community yesterday for the tip-off.

Constable McNamara said the bust dealt a severe blow to the drug industry in the area.

"We were quite happy with the results,'' he said. "We had been gathering information for quite a while.''

He did not believe there was a link between the homes raided.

Yet without information gained through the community the police would have never been able to make such a largescale bust, he said.

"This was made possible through information received by members of the public.
