Hickson shows cup field he?s competitive

? ROCKHAMPTON Cycling Club stalwart Ron Hickson still has that competitive touch.

In preparing to resume club racing at Rockhampton's Kenrick Tucker Velodrome tomorrow night, Hickson comes off last weekend's successful Townsville Cup showing.

Hickson placed third in his cup wheelrace, contested over five laps of the Idalia Velodrome. Riding off 180 metres, Hickson finished strongly behind Jim Larcombe (275m) and Don Huyser (255m), both from the Cairns Cycling Club.

Hickson also collected second place in the combined D grade men's and women's 25-lap points race and elimination, both behind Chloe McPherson, the 2005 junior world keirin champion.

The Rockhampton cyclist won his D grade men's keirin. Other top performances came from Alexandra Bright, who placed second to ex-Rockhampton Cycling Club member Samantha Schultz in the opening elite womens 2-lap handicap. Bright also placed second to McPherson in the elite women's keirin and combin-ed under17/elite women's 15-lap scratch.

Jeremy Hogg collected first place in the under-19 men's keirin, second in the A grade men's 50-lap points score and fourth in the combined A-D Grade men's 2-lap handicap. Ben Moore finished second in the under-17 men's 24-lap scratch race and third in the under-17 men's limit one-lap handicap.

Joshua James collected second in the B grade 43-lap points race and the 30-lap scratch race while Tyler Wright placed third behind James in the scratch race.
