Hollie a Miss Teen finalist

YEPPOON teen Hollie Tickner is now one step closer to her dream of becoming Miss Universe following a model win at the weekend.

Hollie, 16, fended off competition from 19 other hopefuls to be named one of three Queensland finalists in the Miss Teen Australia competition.

The Year 11 St Ursula's College student had flown to Bris- bane with her mother Julie at the weekend to compete in the contest for girls aged 15 to 18.

Hollie had been selected to compete after submitting a make-up free head-shot and full length body photo.

Mrs Tickner said it was the first time her daughter had entered the competition.

"Hollie's got a high dream to be Elle Macpherson or Jennifer Hawkins. You want them (your children) to get through but you don't know if they're going to. I was very excited when she did.''

Mrs Tickner said the competition was good groundwork for the Miss Universe crown.

She said Hollie had to model an evening gown and then answer various questions asked by the judges.

Hollie will go to the final in Darwin on November 24-27.
