Horse around, after all, it?s your birthday

HAPPY birthday Mr Ed.
Today marks the birthday of all thoroughbred racehorses, who will today age another year regardless of when they were actually born.
For Pink Lily horse breeder Len Milner this year's birthday of the horse could not have been any sweeter.
Mr Milner, the owner of Farm View Stud, welcomed a new foal to his farm on Thurs-day night.
He said under previous rules, the foal would have been classed as one year old from today despite being born just a few days ago.
But now that the rules have changed, Mr Milner is ecstatic that the foal will be given more than two years before being considered ready to race as a two-year-old.
"It's a stud master's dream to get them as early as possible,'' Mr Milner said.
"It will be fully two years old when it starts racing and won't have to compete against older horses which gives it the advantage.''
Mr Milner said he believed the colt had a bright future.
He said its mother, Winged Flame, had been a good racehorse, winning about 10 races in Rockhampton.
The colt's sire was New Zealand-born horse Western Red. The foal will be named when it turns two.
