It was a 202kmh pub dash

A THEODORE man who was rushing to get to a pub was clocked at a staggering 202kmh on the Leichhardt Highway between Banana and Theodore on Saturday night.

Regional Traffic co-ordinator Inspector Lyle Mitchell said it was a miracle the man, 32, had not been killed. Inspector Mitchell said the speedster was detected on mobile police radar near Theodore.

He said police had not chased him because of the speed. Instead, with the help of truck drivers, police were able to track the Holden Commodore to Moura where Moura police were waiting to pick him up.

Inspector Mitchell said the man's reason for speeding was that he was running late for a function at the Banana Hotel, where footy legend Arthur Beetson, cricketer Doug Walters and jockey Mal Johnson were speaking at a dinner.
