Jacobs wins berth in State team

By RACHAEL BORICH

ROCKHAMPTON'S latest Queensland sporting representative Cory Jacobs has found the winning touch just like his tennis idol, French Open champion Rafael Nadal.

Jacobs, 11, is the only player outside South-East Queensland to gain Queensland primary school tennis team selection to play at the nationals in Darwin during August.

The youngest member of the State team, the confident St Anthony's Primary School Year 6 student plays with that same spirit which has helped his Spanish idol to the top of world tennis.

Jacobs particularly likes Nadal because he is a left hander ? like himself.

"He (Nadal) fires up and puts in more than 110% on the court all the time,'' Jacobs said.

Jacobs made his Capricornia team debut last year as a Year 5 student and only missed a Queensland start by three places and his mind is already focused on trying to get that Queensland No 1 position next year.

Returning home on Wednesday night Jacobs was back in training at Victoria Park yesterday afternoon preparing for the winter nationals.

Capricornia placed fifth overall at the State primary school titles.
