Jailed again for minor sex

A 20-year-old Woorabinda man will spend five months in prison after getting his underage girlfriend pregnant for a second time.

The man, who cannot legally be named, began his third prison sentence on Thursday after pleading guilty in Rockhampton District Court to unlawful carnal knowledge.

In May 2004 he was sentenced to four months in prison when the girl, then 13, became pregnant.

He was sent to prison for eight months a year later on grievous bodily harm charges after biting and bashing the same girl with a rock.

Defence barrister Ross Lo Monaco told the court the man had moved to Rockhampton to get away from his underage partner.

But he said the girl followed him and again became pregnant to him, this time giving birth to twins.

Prosecutor Tony Louden said the girl's mother had tried to put a stop to the relationship ? not because of the age difference ? but because the pair were distantly related.

The man had only completed his grievous bodily harm sentence four days before he was sent back to prison on Thursday.

Mr Lo Monaco said the girl had played an active part in the relationship.

"It is not as if he has acted in some sort of predatory way,'' he said.

Judge Phil Nase reminded the man the girl, now 16, was left with three children to care for.

"You simply cannot continue to go on the way you have been going on,'' he said.
