James and Jonah succeed early



TALENTED All Blacks halves combination James Cay and Jonah Placid have produced some early success in the Rockhampton Junior Rugby League mini mod competition.

The All Blacks under-12 playmakers both scored doubles in their side's 24-8 opening round win over Fitzroys at Saleyards Park on Sunday.

In the grand final replay at Victoria Park, Brothers recorded a hard-fought 18-10 victory against Norths.

Centre Lachlan Hoch, prop Tom Ford and second-rowers Michael West and Hayden Buckman found the tryline for the defending champions while centre Steve Misso and hooker Daniel Rhule crossed for Norths.

At St Brendan's College, Yeppoon Seagulls Yellow five-eighth George Grant got his side off to a winning start.

Grant grabbed a double in the home side's 14-0 win over Gra- cemere.

Reigning under-11 premiers Norths opened their campaign with a 24-16 victory over Brothers.

Centre Jackson Moon, halfback Mitchell Kingston, prop Zachary Shanks and Ashley Geizler, who came off the bench, led the Norths attack.

For Brothers, centre Duncan Paia'aua, second-rower Riley Norris and interchange player Brent Mackie scored.

In other games, All Blacks ran out 22-0 winners against Fitzroys and Gracemere beat Yeppoon 2410. Mini mods continue on Sunday and international grades return on Friday night.
