Josh runs wheels around the rest

ROCKHAMPTON cyclist Josh Edwards has won the men's wheelrace at the 47th Annual Marykhana in Maryborough on Saturday night.

Edwards won the title from fellow Rockhampton cyclist Tyler Wright while Philippa Hindmarsh won the under-17 wheelrace ahead of her Rockhampton Cycling Club team-mate Ben Moore.

Grant Irwin, Jeremy Hogg and Sarah Edwards were also among the medallists in a dominant display from the Rockhampton cyclists.

Among Irwin's victories were winning the men's flying 200m, points score and scratch race.

Hogg placed second to Irwin in the flying 200m.

This year's Maryborough carnival attracted over 50 cyclists.

The results hold the Rockhampton club riders in good stead for this week's CQU Rockhampton Cup on Wheels which will hit the Kenrick Tucker Velodrome on Friday and Saturday nights.

While the big guns are not racing in this year's event, like Anna and Kerrie Meares who will be competing in the Los Angeles World Cup round and last year's star attraction Olympians Sean Eadie and Ryan Bayley, organisers have still received about 125 nominations for the event which carries over $20,000 in prizemoney.
