Just so they can Roar

FOR Rockhampton soccer prodigy Jade Dilleen, his dreams of one day playing the game abroad comes one step closer to reality next week.

Dilleen, 15, is preparing to pounce on an opportunity to impress when he lines up for Queensland's new Hyundai A-League team ? the Queensland Roar.

The Roar will play two trial games against Frenchville Sports Club Invitational teams on Saturday week.

The Nerimbera Brothers defender joins young goal-scoring machines, Frenchville's Dane Howard and Capricorn Coast's Scott Woodford, in Roar colours.

"It'll be a good experience and opportunity to play for the Roar,'' Dilleen said.

Dilleen, who is eyeing back-toback Queensland selection for the national under-16 championships in Sydney later this year, said his goal was to take his game to a higher level this season.

Like Dilleen, Howard burst on to the Capricornia Soccer League scene last season and hasn't looked back.

Howard said he was looking forward to learning and watching how the Roar players prepare for games.

"Just to see the way they act and go through procedures,'' Howard said. Frenchville coach Wayne Rowland said there was a chance for all players to showcase their skills.

"The opportunity is there for these guys to impress (the Roar), that's for sure,'' Rowland said.

The Roar touring side hits Rockhampton next Thursday and will stage a coaching clinic and open training session at Ryan Park that night before promotional activities.
