Kelly returns to familiar ground

TARINGA Rovers goalkeeper Gerard Kelly is back on home territory.

Kelly joins former Bluebirds United team-mate Brad Lacey and former Cap Coast player Josh Evans in the Taringa Rovers team to play a trial game against the Cougars at Ryan Park tonight.

It was on the fields of Central Queensland where Kelly, now 20, crafted his goalie skills before relocating to Brisbane three seasons ago.

This is Kelly's first game back in Rockhampton since he left. "We're here to win,'' Kelly said.

"There's probably more pressure on myself to show that I'm not just down there and all talk.

"I just have to have the confidence to play well and do nothing silly.''

Kelly's game has changed dramatically since making the move ? developed in a highly professional and intensive training program.

"You can be man of the match one week and you're not guaranteed your spot the week after.''

Taringa were one of the big improvers in the Brisbane Premier XXXX League last season moving from relegation to midfield, finishing equal fifth.

Their new 24-round season starts in January next year.
