Laurence has perfect Solutions

YOU can tell Laurence Stitt is up for the challenge.

The challenge of going it alone in business, that is.

As I sat in his makeshift office underneath his Skyring Street family home I felt as though I could have been anywhere but LD Stitt Business Solutions.

I wiped the sweat from my brow and mentioned the weather update I'd heard in the car on my way to interview Laurence, who is a business consultant.

"They forecast a storm this arvo and hail,'' I remarked, as a standing fan battled to cool the room.

Laurence quickly replied: "There's definitely some advantages to working from home, I've just got to ring up the air-conditioning company.''

Laurence went on to explain how he had been operating his new venture, which has a core focus of helping businesses grow and achieve better results, since August.

"I was commercial manager at J.M. Kelly (Project Builders) for the past eight years. Before that I spent 18 years in sugar and grain industries.''

Laurence is a familiar face in CQ business circles having volunteered his time to many committees.

He said he had always had a goal of starting his own business.

"Over the last couple of years I'd looked at different options. I couldn't see myself selling ice-creams. I enjoy the dynamics of working with people and helping them. The biggest buzz of all is seeing people get results.''

As I recalled looking over Laurence's business profile earlier, which in part read "Bachelor of Business, Graduate Diploma in Management, Certified Accountant'' ? I was sure he had made the right move.

There was a glint in his eye and enthusiasm in his voice as he spoke about the future.

"CQ is in a huge growth phase and the economy in Rockhampton is extremely strong and diverse,'' he said.

"Rocky is very much underresourced when it comes to quality and expert people to work with businesses and that was part of the reason for what I've set up.''

Laurence admitted he still probably wouldn't find enough time to enjoy his other passion, fishing, now that he was his own boss.

"Probably not. I've got to make time, but we'll have to see if that happens.
