Man wounded in street shooting

A MAN is in custody after a shooting in a North Rockhampton street yesterday afternoon.

CIB Detective Sergeant Steve Paskin said a man was taken to Rockhampton Hospital with a wound to his left leg. His condition was unknown last night.

Police arrived in bullet-proof vests, blocking off the street to investigate the incident, believed to have happened between 5pm and 5.30pm in Little Musgrave Street.

At 8.30pm police were taking statements from witnesses.

Sergeant Paskin said no charges had been laid yet as police had not interviewed the man in custody or the victim.

Little Musgrave Street resident Craig Golik said he heard a gun fired.

"I heard something that sounded like the cracking of a whip,'' he said.

"I was sitting in the backyard when it happened.''

Mr Golik said his daughter saw a white car speed off shortly after the shooting.

She said she could also hear yelling.

"You hear a lot of noises in this street, but this was a little unusual,'' he said.
