Mates rev up for Miss Indy contest

WHAT started as just a bit of fun for two friends has turned into a chance to rev it up at the Gold Coast IndyCar Carnival.

Rockhampton's Tracey Sweeney and Melinda Siegmeier, both 18, will contest the local final of the Bartercard Miss Indy 2005 competition tomorrow night at Strutter's Nite Club, after being announced heat two winners.

In total, 14 women will strut their stuff for a chance to be crowned Rockhampton's 2005 Miss Indy entrant.

For Ms Sweeney and Ms Siegmeier it was the first time they had entered a beauty pageant of this nature, although both had dancing experience.

"I just got dragged into it by Melinda,'' Ms Sweeney said. Ms Siegmeier said another friend had been "at her for ages'' to give it a go.

"I thought it would be a good experience and a bit of fun,'' she said.

As for their chances of winning tomorrow night?

"It'll be pretty tough,'' Ms Siegmeier said.

We here at The Morning Bulletin think both ladies have a great chance ? but since they both work here, we're probably a tad biased.

Good luck girls!
