Mosaics dress up city street
REFLECTIONS of Central Queenlsand's past are being etched into the streets of Rockhampton.
A mosaic and 12 window murals are being created on Derby Street.
The window murals will be in front of the lower windows at the Walter Reid Centre. They will feature different aspects of Central Queens- land's past.
One of the 12 window mosaics will have a military theme and include badges and memorabilia from the different military battalions in the area.
"The mosaics help preserve our history and memories,'' said Tom Patterson from the Central Queensland Military and Artefacts Museum.
About 40 volunteers have been working on the mosaics, and organiser Suzanne Holmann said the project would take about five weeks.
Ms Holmann has worked on mosaic projects throughout Australia. "The workshops are a good way to meet different people in the community,'' she said. "And they (the mosaics) create a sense of ownership . . .
