Mum, child found at hospital
POLICE found missing mother Kellie McGuiness and her three-year-old daughter yesterday at Rockhampton Hospital after a tip-off.
The pair was reported missing on Monday and police had feared for their safety.
The last anyone had heard from Ms McGuiness, 23, was on Saturday.
During a phone call to her parents' North Rockhampton home, where she had been staying, she told her sister she would be home that afternoon.
Yesterday, after comprehensive media coverage in which police appealed for the public's help to find them, a breakthrough came.
"A person who she (Ms McGuiness) was staying with in North Rockhampton contacted police after seeing media coverage and told us both were safe and well,'' Rockhampton District Inspector Graham Coleman said.
"We don't know why she (Ms McGuiness) did not let anyone know she was okay, but the main thing is both of them are safe and well,'' Inspector Coleman said.
He said Ms McGuiness had attended the hospital due to illness, and police had found her there with her daughter about noon.
She was interviewed and later reunited with her parents. "They (parents) were just thankful she was okay,'' Inspector Coleman said.
Ms McGuiness had arrived in Rockhampton from Beaudesert last Wednesday to visit her mum and dad.
Police did not release the name of the child.
