Mum n? Dean beat the odds

By TAMARA KEMP

IT is one thing to have a mother with the same musical taste as her son ? especially when it's techno music.

But Mount Morgan's Dean Barrett and his mother Judy Whittaker, they not only listen to techno, they create it.

After three months of intense beat bashing and mixing the pair compiled their first CD: DJ Mar N Dean, Electrofied the Album.

And on July 1, their hard work paid off.

While most people are in bed asleep at 3.40am, Mr Barrett was all ears to Triple-J listening to their song on the radio.

"It was a very nervy feeling listening to something you have created,'' he said looking back at his mother, reliving the memory.

"It all started out as me playing around on the Sony PlayStation II and a music mixing game about three years ago.''

Ms Whittaker described their music as techno-electronic, with a twist.

She said their music has already made a note in the south-east corner with Brisbane DJ Pete Cummings featuring their music in the nightclubs.

Ms Whittaker said she and Dean were already working on new material for their second album.

Electrofied the Album is available at Fox Video and Ramm's Retravision, Mount Morgan.
