No opinion will be spoken by Schwarten

FOR the second time in his entire life, Member for Rockhampton Robert Schwarten is speechless.

That's right, the vocal pollie and self-confessed chin-wagger is about to be silenced for at least 10 days.

Mr Schwarten will tomorrow undergo surgery in Brisbane to remove growths from his throat, which have left his usually booming voice weak.

It's the second time Mr Schwarten's gone under the knife to fix the growths known as granuloma. Last time the silence only lasted for two days, but this time, Mr Schwarten plans to go the distance.

"I'm really going to try and do it this time.''

Mr Schwarten said he had had cards done up to hand to people who tried to talk to him, explaining his situation.

He said he planned to work on policies, the next election and also a spot of tinkering around his backyard shed.

Mr Schwarten expected his voice to be back to fighting form at the end of the 10 days.

In the meantime, he expected his adversaries to try to use his silence to their advantage.

"There will always be someone out there who will try to turn a calamity into a win for themselves,'' he joked.
