Norris man to catch

By AARON KELLY

SOUTH Australian golfer Jason Norris is the man to catch when the $85,000 Pat O'Driscoll Real Estate/Tropical Auto Group Pro Am Golf Classic continues at Yeppoon's Rydges Capricorn Resort today.

Norris will launch into the second round with a runaway threeshot lead after firing a blistering opening round 63 yesterday.

Playing on the resort course, Norris made the most of the perfect conditions, joining one of the first groups to tee off.

The surprise early leader nailed 11 birdies in an impressive tournament debut.

Queensland young gun Jonathon O'Sullivan and Western Australia's Scott Strange are tied for second on 66.

Fellow Queenslander Matthew Ballard shot 68 while Eddie Barr, Robin Hodges, Andrew Duffin and Adam Le Vesconte all produced rounds of 68.

Event drawcard Peter Senior is a shot further back on 69 and bighitting Victorian Jarrod Lyle hit an even-par 72.

Rising Yeppoon star Boyd Watts heads the leading group in the amateur field.

Watts, who won last weekend's CQ Closed Championships, fired a 69 on the resort course yesterday.

The teenager leads experienced Yeppoon counterpart Trevor Tougher (72) by three shots while Brisbane duo Daniel Nisbett and Scott Perro (both 74) are in striking distance. Today's action starts from 6.48am.
