North Rocky supermarket refurbished

IT'S a classic case of out with the old and in with the new at Rockhampton's Northside Plaza shopping complex.

Centre manager Mike Duggan yesterday said a $10 million facelift of the Musgrave Street facility was due to be completed by the first week in November.

"All in all it's a complete makeover,'' he said.

"From the roof, floor, lighting and amenities to walkways and parking, everything is being renewed.''

Mr Duggan said it was the biggest upgrade of the centre (opened in 1969) since probably the late 1970s/ early 1980s. "It really is long overdue.''

Mr Duggan said the work was timely, given the growing popularity of the shopping centre, which incorporates Woolworths and more than 20 speciality stores.

"It's a very easy shopping centre to get in and out of which is important these days with time at a premium.

"People have proved they want to shop here because of that, and it's really just a matter of making it even more convenient for them.''

The upgrade started about 12 months ago with new air-conditioning systems installed in Woolworths and specialty stores.

Woolworths also had an interior makeover and a new back dock built.

Mr Duggan said work on covered car parking was well under way and that was sure to be a welcome addition.

"People will appreciate that during the hotter, summer months,'' he said.

Mr Duggan said the upgrade would be the last for a while. "It certainly wouldn't need to be done again for at least another 10 years.
