Oswin claims her ironman division

IN SPEAKING with Tannum Sands triathlete Prue Oswin yesterday evening you would not have known she had just completed an ironman event in just over 10 hours.

Oswin, 28, not only won her agegroup in the 25-29 years women's division but was also the first agegroup female across the finish line at the Australian Ironman in Port Macquarie, New South Wales.

"It was a beautiful course and I was happy to enjoy most of the race,'' said Oswin, after completing a 3.8km swim, 180km ride and 42km run.

"It's such a long event, but I enjoyed the ride and part of the run.''

Oswin completed the swim in her target time of about one hour and despite problems with her stopwatch she thinks the bike leg was about five hours and 35 minutes.

"I was towards the front of my field then and I was surprised at how ready my legs were to run,'' Oswin said.

Results were still being finalised last night and other Gladstone area competitors in action were Steve Kanowski, Cheryl Ogden and Rebecca Josey.
