Panthers still at top of tree

FRENCHVILLE Panthers remain at the top of the Rockhampton Basketball division one men's table despite playing a thrilling tie on Wednesday night.

Panthers were expected to easily account for lowly-placed Legends at Hegvold Stadium but instead had to outscore the underdogs 18-13 in the last quarter to avoid defeat. The game finished locked at 65-all.

Peter Trenerry scored a gamehigh 17 points for Legends while Paul Christensen (16 points) led the way for Panthers.

In the other game, Uni Buckets edged out Swans 60-54 to consolidate second place on the competition table.

Paul Scott nailed four three- pointers on his way to a gamehigh 21 points for Uni.

In the women's division one, competition frontrunners Frenchville Panthers accounted for Freedom Fastcats 73-36 on the back of a 33-point haul from Katrina Clifford.

The other game between Southside Toledo and Titans was washed out. A date for the clash is yet to be fixed.
