Party hard at Middlemount

THE countdown has begun for one of Central Queensland racing's biggest parties, the annual Middlemount Cup race meeting on Saturday.

In the heart of Central Queensland's mining territory, Middlemount races just once a year offering around $35,000 in prizemoney and trophies.

This is an increase of $5000 on the 2004 meeting which was attended by 2000 patrons.

Each year horses and trainers converge from a wide area to chase the prizemoney on the spacious racecourse that would do any country centre proud.

It was no different last year with winners coming from Emerald, Thangool, Dysart. Moranbah and Rockhampton.

The very professional Middlemount Race Club committee caters for the young and old at the annual extravaganza.

For the children, the giant slide, finger face painting and sideshows are always popular.

Fashions on the Field, dance displays and live music will again ensure the Middlemount races are well attended by social racegoers.

Entries close for the Middlemount Cup Day races at 11am today.
