Police search riverbank for missing man

ROCKHAMPTON police yesterday began to search the Fitzroy River for Jeffery Charles Richards, 51, who has been missing from the Harmony Hotel since Thursday.

Known as Jeffro, staff members at the hotel (who did not want to be named) reported him missing on Saturday. They described him as a cowboy kind of a guy who walks "a little bent over and bow legged''.

Being pension day, Jeffro left the hotel in William Street on Thursday morning, saying he would be back in five minutes.

After checking his bank account, police discovered he had taken a considerable amount of money out on the day he disappeared. All of Jeffro's belongings are still in his room.

"He's an asthmatic and his spray is still there, his glasses for reading are still there, his toiletries are still there .?.?.'' Pants, shirts and watch are all still in Jeffro's room waiting for his return.

Because he frequently walked along the banks of the river, police are searching the area to rule out something happening to him while walking.

Jeffro is described as 165cm tall, caucasian, slim build, shoulder-length blonde hair and blue eyes.

He is believed to be wearing a black baseball cap and black leather vest.
