Power play lead-up to Rocky Cup

GRACEMERE little warrior Highest Power's Rockhampton Cup preparations are on target after a sizzling return to form at Callaghan Park yesterday.

The courageous Jim O'Shea-trained galloper stormed home from second last on the turn to narrowly miss outsider Don't Mukaround in the XXXX Open Handicap (1200m).

Don't Mukaround ($29.80), ridden by leading apprentice Lachlan Fyfe, caught pacesetter Nod Of Approval down the straight before Highest Power and Booboo charged home late.

The Rockhampton Cup will be raced over 2000m on June 18 with regular rider Dale Evans rating Highest Power's lead-up on track.

Evans and Brisbane apprentice Gavin McKeon continued their close rivalry in the jockeys premiership race yesterday, both riding multiple winners.

Evans steered Stage Shaker ($2.70) and Bold Ausbred ($3.40) to victory, while McKeon landed back-to-back wins aboard Clear Intent ($5.70) and Debonair ($12.00).

The Robert Wilson-trained Jadelle ($28.60) caused the boilover on the card winning the maiden (1000m) in emphatic fashion.
