Radio station challenge runs empty

ROCKHAMPTON radio station 4RO yesterday threw out a challenge to fuel retailers to drop prices.

Following the success of rival SeaFM's deal with CQ Petroleum on Wednesday, which saw unleaded petrol prices plummet to 107.8c a litre, 4RO offered $2000 worth of free advertising to any outlet which would drop their price by 5c, 10c, or lower.

However the offer was not accepted.

"We threw it out there as a community service but there were no takers,'' 4RO Talk of the Town host Jeff Goodwin said.

"The offer is still open tomorrow (Friday) but after that we'll look at something different.''

Mr Goodwin said a couple of factors could have played a role in there being no takers.

"There are not many independent operators around and it may have cost them too much to run (the offer).
